Problem 3 Consider a spinning rotor supported on both sides. What will happen if the left support is removed?
|
Solution: When the left support is removed, the rotor experiences a torque due to its own weight. The torque vector is perpendicular to the screen pointing towards you. This will cause the precession of the rotor. The rotor will start precessing in anticlockwise direction in a horizontal plane (looking from the top). |
