Theorem 3.7:

Suppose that $X$ is a metric space, $A$ is a closed subspace of $X$ and $f: A \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a continuous function then $f$ extends continuously to the whole of $X$. Furthermore if $f$ is bounded from above/below then the extension may be so chosen that the bound(s) are preserved.
