Theorem 3.7:

Suppose that $ X$ is a metric space, $ A$ is a closed subspace of $ X$ and $ f: A \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a continuous function then $ f$ extends continuously to the whole of $ X$. Furthermore if $ f$ is bounded from above/below then the extension may be so chosen that the bound(s) are preserved.
