Introduction

Man and society are inseparably linked. They both affect each other and this is the basis of the association between cognitive and affective status of man on one hand and the social order on the other. This and the next lecture are devoted to the nature of relationship between man and society. In this lecture we raise three issues:

(a) what connects man to society?

(b) is there a relationship between moral status of man and moral order?

(c) what are the values of Indian society which determines man’s moral and affective status?
