Introduction
This lecture is devoted to institutional approach to social transformation. The aim of the institutional approach is to steer change in some or all social institutions and processes to usher a desired goal. Unlike the moral approach, it is adopted by collective actors who analyze social situation, develop a plan to change status-quo and make social intervention with the help of people’s support. The vanguard of change may be a reformist civil society group, a revolutionary group, or the state itself. The institutional approach may take one of the following two forms: (a) piecemeal social engineering; and (b) revolution. This lecture covers discussion of institutional approach to transformation, differences between piecemeal social engineering and revolutionary approach, and strengths and limitations of social intervention as such.
