World Values Survey
In addition to surveys of happiness, surveys of values, such as The World Values Survey (WVS) http://www.worldvaluessurvey.org/, also reveal a lot about values and happiness. These surveys have shifted the attention of researchers from who is happy to why are people happy and they explore the processes which affect subjective well-being (Diener, 2000). They also aim at exploring how people’s values and beliefs change over time and what social and political impact they have. The WVS measures, monitors and analyzes the following: support for democracy, tolerance of foreigners and ethnic minorities, support for gender equality, the role of religion and changing levels of religiosity, the impact of globalization, attitudes toward the environment, work, family, politics, national identity, culture, diversity, insecurity, and subjective well-being.
