The following pedagogy is used: the facilitator formulates a question and discussion follows. Everyone is encouraged to comment, ask new questions, and suggest answers. Discussion is conducted in a free atmosphere and all types of issues can be raised.
Thus the facilitator begins by asking:
(We can examine this within ourselves.)
Then the facilitator asks:
Are we happy?
Are we prosperous?
Is there continuity of our happiness and prosperity?
Is our effort:
And the dialogue continues. At the end of the discussion the facilitator sums up the discussion and provides answers to the above questions.
At the outset, it may be noted that this is not the first time that somebody made value an issue. However, unlike in the past when values were associated with religious, political and spiritual ideas, in the new framework values are based on self exploration, natural acceptance and the idea that human values are closely linked with our human identity. We are humans because we carry human values. Moreover, we can call ourselves human only to the extent we follow human values. In that sense “human values” are human values. Not only that they are of value to humans they also define the common humanness in all human beings. In absence of human values we cannot see ourselves as the member of the human race. Thus to live authentically is to live like a human person.
