Module 11: Indian Social Thoughts
  Lecture 31: Indian Social Thoughts

Introduction

In India there has been an upsurge in literature on indigenous knowledge systems. Several sociologists, psychologists and economists have argued for revival of Indian systems of thought. Many believe that India is uniquely placed to provide an alternative to capitalism and socialism and revival and critical examination of indigenous knowledge systems can help in this. Their efforts have led to a number of ideas. Several of them are known and appreciated worldwide. In this lecture an attempt will be made to explore some of them and also look for whether they can contribute to universal thinking on human issues, or provide at least a critical reflection on the problems of Indian society.
