Module 10: Possibilities of transformation
  Lecture 30: Professional Ethics

H. N. Kubali (1992) argues that the major problem of modern societies is ethical. This is the result of the failure of the intermediate institutions between individual and state. This failure can be and should be checked through civic morals, and building professional ethics in professional organizations. In literature on ethics professions are distinguished from occupations. Professions are occupations but all occupations are not professions. Farmers and manual laborers are not called professionals. It is said that occupations may undergo professionalization and at a time the degree of professionalization of different occupations may be different.

GANDHI’S TALK WITH A ZAMINDAR
Zamindar: Where shall we stand when India is independent MKG: You will be as free as any scavenger …
Z: Many ancient zamindars existed bong before the advent of the British.
MKG: Anything that is ancient and consistent with moral values has a title to be retained. Per contra anything that does not conform to moral values has to go. Wrong has no prescriptive right to exist merely because it is of long standing.
