Introduction

Everyone is talking about corruption, fall in morality and chaos. Everyone is worried about the future of mankind. There is lot of talk of ethics these days. People from all walks of life complain that man has become self centered and no one is bothered about its effects on society. Ethical practices lead to better economic performance. Economically advanced countries are also the most transparent countries having highest standards of ethics. Everyone has a simple solution: professionals should follow ethics. If professionals do their job ethically everyone will be do the same. One can also find ample literature on ethics applied to different subfields of ethics such as business ethics, engineering ethics, bioethics, environmental ethics, marketing ethics, accounting ethics, ethics in science and technology, workplace ethics etc. In the recent times social theorists as well as management gurus have particularly drawn attention to ethical practices in professional life which can broadly be called professional ethics. The reason is that since professions have a very powerful impact on society the violation of professional ethics can do a great harm to society and its very survival can be in jeopardy. This lecture is devoted to definition of professional ethics, impact of violation of professional ethics on society, causes of violation of professional ethics and some possible remedies.
