Module 9: Postmodernization and emancipation
  Lecture 25: Modernization and Post-modernization

Here it would be useful to distinguish modernization of society from individual modernity. The former refers to processes of change at the social level, the later to characteristics of modern individuals. As the above list of theme shows, modernization signifies several things: a change in attitudes, orientation towards time, secularization, planning, development of science and technology and a change in social structure. Table 25.2 exhibits some simple empirical indicators of modernization at the societal (macro) and individual (micro) levels.
