Utilitarianism and Sarvodaya
Utilitarianism deals with how to determine rightness or badness of actions in terms of good and bad consequences, or principle of determining good and bad acts. It proposes that in a given situation, the right thing to do is what is likely to produce the best overall results for all (obviously those who will be affected by the action). However, this idea is not the same idea as of Sarvodaya. Utilitarianism aims at maximization of the benefits of all and this is one of the three major elements of Sarodaya. But Sarvodaya also includes two more ideas: (a) the worth of the work of all (for example a barber and an advocate) is same because all have right to livelihood; and (b) the life of a simple peasant/labor is the best life.Utilitarianism has no such position.
