Introduction

Religious beliefs are central to human behavior but most of the time human behavior is governed more by purely secular, economic considerations. Therefore, in discussion of individual happiness and social values there is all the more a need to look into how economists and economic theories view these issues. Survey of economics shows that the idea of happiness has been the concern of a section of economists who are known as utilitarians.
