Principles of Islam
Islam is believed to be a monolithic religion with a great closeness between cosmology, ethics and metaphysics. There are two main principles of Islam: (a) God is one; and (b) Mohammad is the messenger of God.
All the followers of Islam are supposed to take up five activities:
-
Recitation of Kalma so that one develops deep faith in “God is one” and Mohammad is the messenger of God. The English translation of the Kalma is: There is No God but Allah, and the Prophet Mohammed is his Last and Final Messenger. Respected Sir, Under Principles of Islam it is more correct and appropriate to state that "Mohammad is the last messenger of God", this is important because as per Islam there were other messengers before prophet Mohammad, the list includes Moses (Musa), Abraham (Ibrahim), Noah (Nuh), Jesus (Isa), and some more.
-
Namaz (Prayers) – five times a day.
-
Keeping fast (Roza) during the one month period of Ramazan, the ninth month according to Islamic Lunar calendar. During this period Muslims must eat only in the evening and that too after the sunset. This is the month when the Kuran is known to appear first time.
-
Zakat, i.e., giving two-and-a-half percent of one’s income in charity
-
Haz, i.e., pilgrimage. Initially this meant pilgrimage to Macca and Madina but now it also includes visits to burial places of saints.
