Value education for students of science and technology

Everyone needs value education. Everyone needs to be trained to be happy and to contribute meaningfully to society. Yet, students of science and technology need value education more than others. Scientific and technical professionals are involved in activities which have great effect on society and social environment. By sensitizing them to values and need for professional ethics scientific and technological activities can be oriented towards human progress, and those activities which have adverse effect on social structure, culture and environment can be limited. The task is not simple. Scientists and technologists are not free to set their own goals. Science and technology activities are part of a global knowledge process and are closely connected to state, business and structures of other institutions. Yet, this is precisely the reason why students of science and technology should be imparted value education.
