The Pro-streetcar arguments presented by the PTC

  • The PTC represented by its New York lawyers mobilized technical arguments in response. Electrical engineers provided witnesses and testimonials. These people were also in the business of streetcars.

  • These experts argued that the lines did not pose any threat to human life.

  • They claimed that the horse-cars made more noise than the electric streetcars.

  • They discredited the alternatives saying that they were unreliable and costly. Saying that the success of Budapest was just an anomaly.

  • They attacked their opponents as enemies of progress.

  • They wanted to portray themselves as the allies of working class. Alleging that the protesters were well-heeled people and small shopkeepers who have gotten a little wealth and protest against everything.
