Organization of Human Nervous System

The study of complex human behaviour and their association with anatomy of the brain has gone a long way. With the availability of brain imaging techniques and certain software it is possible to look into a functional brain.

For convenience as well as on the basis of operation, the nervous system is classified into two major subsystems— the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system comprises of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system, on the other hand, consists of the somatic and the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system has two divisions- sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. The figure given below shows all the constituents of the human nervous system.

Central Nervous System

The central nervous system constitutes of brain and the spinal cord. All the overt and covert behaviours are the product of effective functioning of the most important organ— the brain. For convenience of understanding it is further subdivided into hind brain, mid brain and fore brain.
