Sustainable Design is based on the following material applications which should provide the spirit of Sustainable Design solutions (Ref. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_design ; April 3, 2013):
Low-impact materials: choose non-toxic, sustainably produced or recycled materials which require little energy to process
Energy efficiency: use manufacturing processes and produce products which require less energy
Quality and durability: longer-lasting and better-functioning products will have to be replaced less frequently, reducing the impacts of producing replacements
Design for reuse andrecycling: "Products, processes, and systems should be designed for performance in a commercial 'afterlife'."
Renewability: materials should come from nearby areas, sustainably managed renewable sources that can be converted to useful alternative resources.
It is found that the popular product design material and naturally found are- Adobe, bamboo, clay, coconut fiber and palm, cork, recycled rubber, straw, textile, timber, etc. Globally people are innovating with the help of sustainable design solutions.
