Module 2 : Design & Natural Phenomenon
Lecture 5 : What is Biomimicry & Application in Products
  What is Biomimicry?

Biomimicry inspires people to looking at nature that is known to us since the beginning of mankind in new ways to truly appreciate and understand how its functioning that could be applied to help solve problems. Nature as model emulates nature’s forms, processes and systems to solve human problems- which are the act of biomimicry.

“Biomimicry (from bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate) is a new discipline that studies nature's best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems. Studying a leaf to invent a better solar cell is an example. I think of it as "innovation inspired by nature."

“The discipline of biomimicry takes its name from the Greek words ‘bios’, meaning life and ‘mimesis’, meaning to imitate.  as its name might suggest, biomimicry involves the study of nature’s designs and mimicking them to solve human challenges.”

It is a new tool we are using for the benefit of mankind or area of research that is increasingly revealing the unknown characteristics of nature.  The studies of nature’s models and then emulates to understand forms, process, systems, and strategies to solve human problems. Human being has understood that by emulating nature’s paradigm the earth would become heather leading to sustainable design.  Learning to camouflage from insects or using the technique of lifting much higher weight compare to the physical weight or size.

Nature has gone through a long process of evolution for thousands of years. Nature has gone through a slow process of adjustment with the changing nature. While human being is in hurry to develop things in much shorter period. Naturally in the process either we fail to harmonize with the nature or we make wrong readjustment which is effecting to our own earth environment.
