The Baster Artin wrought iron is well-known throughout the world. The remarkable technique and style has drawn attention of millions. Traditionally people used to extract iron from the local soil. An indigenous technique of extracting iron ore from the local soil helped them develop their own tools and artefacts. The simplified forms clearly show their basic understanding of anatomical forms. The basic structureiscreated with the help of cylindrical. The figures made by hammering the metal sheet. The forms are quite close to Platonic Solids. Rarely images (plate 9A-9D) have any joints except they are interlocked between the sheets. Single figure (plate 9C) is made out of one single sheet by turning into cylindrical tubal forms. The Baster artworks have displayed amazing skill of simple form paradigm that is rarely found in other artworks. Interestingly their works reflect the essence of Platonic Solids.

Exercise: Create a group of animals(at least five) and make a compositionby using the basic cylindrical and conical forms.
