From the ancient period mankind has observed the strength and potential of indigenous material for the purpose of constructions. Timber, clay and stone are the three easy available local materials. In situation we find that man is searching for the suitable material that would qualify for the purposes. The construction of stone-bridge for the purposes of passage (plate 11A) has provided better land communication. Ancient Greek stone bridge (plate 11B) has given access to difficult places across the water body.  Railways in India have constructed stone-bridges across difficult terrain. The first journey of Indian Railways between Mumbai and Thane is supported by stone bridge (plate 11C) to carry heavy load.
