Traditionally man had chosen indigenous materials that are locally available for building bridges. Naturally bamboo and timber became the most popular material. Bamboo is one of the most durable and suitable natural materials that can stand in hostile environment, it has great deal of elasticity and eco-friendly. Each of the above examples (plate 8A-8C) shows the unique features of design and applications. Thus, for ages bamboo has helped man for the purpose of passage.

Exercise: Multiple pathways on land cross each other for easy movements. Draw a sketch identifying various natures of passages on a plan and briefly describe the reasons.
