The above large handled scissors (plate 38B) work exceptionally well for specialized medical surgery because it provides outstanding control. The position of the Fulcrum (plate 37) is the most important in the Scissors Paradigm which is based on the principle of lever mechanism. Using lever for lifting heavy objects man has cleverly applied the ‘liver’ mechanism for centuries. The illustrations above (plate 39A-D) explain the basic principles of fulcrum and liver mechanism that help us to realize, how to lift greater weight with lesser effort. The scissors function is fundamentally based on the above mechanism.
Handed Scissors are explained in the following section -
Handed Scissors
Scissors function by the combination of :
1. Gripping
2. Squeezing and
3. Tearing.
Each scissors operation has to go through three following stages- gripping, squeezing and tearing. When the blades of scissors close, its sharp edges grind against each other and any tissue which comes between the blades of scissors will get cut.
