If we have understood the importance of being smaller or closed compact, similarly we need to examine the advantage of bigger shape or size. To reach higher (plate 3C&D), to provide catch more wind the eagle expands its wings (plate 4A), a dominating and full grown gorilla (plate 4B), the fur of a full grown lion (plate 4C) provide more cooling surface; the python appears to look scarier (plate 4D) are all part of bigger paradigm that are visible to us. In each case the expanding size in bigger scale has some advantage. Bigger or smaller is part of growing living species.

Plate 5 Design Process

Growth- most familiar way in which things in natural world get larger, sign of developing life. Growth is the sign of living beings. It indicates life exists. Growth in nature is limited to living beings. In the world of man-made products the growth paradigm is applied to the design process (plate 5). The design process starts from the concept stage to complete the product stage. The characteristics of a design process indicate its growth like an organic substance. It proves its success through growth paradigm.

Assignment #04: Find five man-made products that have used such paradigms.
