Module 5 Representation of Vertical Distance

The utility of a plan or map increases highly if it also depicts the relative vertical position of the points, natural and/or man made objects and/or features. The vertical positions of points can be represented in different ways such as shading, haching, spot height or contour line on a map. Of these, contour lines or contours are most widely used for representation of the relief of terrain.

Objective of Module 5

The objective of Module 5 is to explain the fundamentals of contours and their engineering applications.
