For short lines of lengths less than 3 Km in length and/or vertical angles of less than 5°, EDM slope distances corrected for meteorological conditions and system constants can be reduced to horizontal with the usual slope correction equations as outlined in Lesson 9.

If the measured line is very long and slope angle is more than 5°, the slope distance measured using EDM gets reduced to horizontal distance by some other complex method which is beyond the scope of this course.
