DYMAMICS OF FLUID FLOW
Example 1:

An inclined pipe ( with horizontal) of circular cross-section (3cm radius) carries oil having density of and kinematic viscosity of . Between two section '1' and '2' of pipe 10m apart, the pressure are measured to be 350kPa and 250kpa respectively. Assuming steady laminar flow,

  1. Show the direction of flow.
  2. Head loss between section '1' and '2'.
  3. Discharge and velocity
  4. Reynolds number of the flow
  5. Is the flow really laminar?
Solution :

The flow through the circular pipe is shown in the following figure.

The elevation at section '2' is given by,

Dynamic viscosity,
